Mud gas separator

Mud gas separator

Mud gas separator is designed for separation of gas-containing drilling mud during blowout accident in the process of drilling oil and gas wells. Mud gas separator is commonly referred to as Poor boy degasser.

The mud gas separator captures and separates large volumes of free gas inside the drilling fluid.  And the KINGWELL vacuum and centrifugal degasser is especially designed for separating a small volume of gas-containing drilling mud.  Poor Boy Degasser or mud gas separator, located downstream of the choke manifold. Once the gas has been separated, it can pass through the vent line to the shale shaker in the mud circulation system. Alternatively, as long as it’s a safe distance from the rig, it could even be vented.

If a "kick" situation occurs, this mud gas separator separates the dirt and gas, allowing them to flow through the deflectors.  The gas is then forced to flow through a pipeline that goes to the flare.  A "kick" situation occurs when the annular hydrostatic pressure in a borehole temporarily (and usually relatively suddenly) drops below the reservoir, or pore, pressure in the permeable portion of the well, and before control of the situation is lost.

Working Principle of mud gas separato

The working principle of poor boy degasser is relatively simple.

When gas-containing drilling fluid is fed into the inlet of the mud gas separator, allowing it to hit a series of baffles designed to separate the gas and drilling mud.  The free gas is then moved to the flare line to reduce the threat of toxic and hazardous gases, and then the dirt is discharged into shale shaker in the mud circulation system.
